But a favorite occasion to celebrate is certainly a birthday and we’re all invited to one! Did you know that Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico turns 100 years old in 2023? Carlsbad Caverns National Park was established on October 23, 1923, which means that on October 23rd this year, it will be turning the big 100!

This celebration is undoubtedly a big deal as it marks an entire century in that its nearly 47,000 acres of beauty and natural wonders have been protected.

In addition to 119 caves, Carlsbad Caverns National Park is home to a wide variety of mammals that includes 17 species of bats as well as 357 bird species, 55 amphibian and reptile species, and nearly 900 species of plants.

As part of the celebration, there's an exhibit at Lake Carlsbad Recreation Area to check out. In a joint partnership with the Carlsbad Public Library and the City of Carlsbad NM Government, 20 interpretive exhibits with information on the park, how the caves were formed, and other fascinating information is on display.
