I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you’re in the mood for some good food and, perhaps, some entertainment, head to the small town of Pinos Altos, a former mining community in Grant County. This iconic restaurant in New Mexico has been open for more than 150 years and is worth the drive to get here.
Located 7,000 feet up a mountain in Pinos Altos, The Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House is a long-time icon. It first opened its doors in the 1860s soon after this former mining community was established.
Walk through The Buckhorn Saloon's doors and you can feel the history right away. Its warm and inviting atmosphere will welcome you to enjoy good food, drinks, and, perhaps, some live music.
If you love steak, you've come to the right place. The Buckhorn is known for its steak dinners, so order yourself a cowboy-cut rib-eye, a rib-eye, a prime filet mignon, or a New York strip.
Steaks aren't the only items available on the menu. You can try the shrimp scampi over a bed of linguine, the hatch green chili chicken alfredo, the chicken parmesan, or the miso-glazed salmon, just to name a few.
