I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you’ve spent time out West, you’re probably familiar with In-N-Out Burger. I remember the first time I had eaten at one of this iconic chain’s locations in California. Something about it was transformative and, since then, it’s the first place I have to grab food from when I come back home after a trip. And while there are currently locations in eight states including California, Arizona, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, and Texas, there isn’t one in the Land of Enchantment…at least not yet. But brace yourselves because plans are in the works for the first-ever In-N-Out Burger in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
There's no doubt that In-N-Out Burger has grown extensively since it was founded in the late 1940s in Baldwin Park, California. This regional fast-food chain can now be found in eight states.

While there isn't currently an In-N-Out location in New Mexico, that is going to change in the next few years. By 2027, the Land of Enchantment is set to have its very first location of this popular burger chain in Albuquerque!
Its nostalgic feel and simple menu have been a recipe for success since its founding in California in 1948. In-N-Out provides a mouthwatering menu of burgers, cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes. You can order your food inside the store or go to the drive-thru.
While soda is an option here, you can also wash your burger and fries down with a shake. There are only three flavors -- vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. While simple, you can mix it up a bit by combining two or three flavors like I do.
The three-flavor shake combination is actually called a Neapolitan Shake which is something on In-N-Out's secret menu that I'll talk about next.
For those who know, there's a secret menu at In-N-Out. Now, the one I'm most familiar with is "Animal Style," a cheesey sauce with grilled onions. This is how I order my fries.
Additionally, you can order your burger with triple meat, protein style (lettuce wrap in lieu of a bun), or a grilled cheese with no meat. The secret menu makes ordering at In-N-Out so much fun!
Have you ever been to an In-N-Out Burger location yet? Are you excited for one to finally open In New Mexico in 2027? I sure am! If you’re traveling to one of the eight states it’s currently in and want to visit a location, check out the In-N-Out Burger website.
It will be a while for In-N-Out to open in Albuquerque so, in the meantime, try to explore other dining options in the city. You can even take a New Mexico Flavors Tour Of Old Town Albuquerque to explore the city’s food scene.
