The Glorieta Battlefield Trail is a hiking trail in Pecos National Historical Park that will give you a historical, educational, and memorable outdoor experience.
The Glorieta Battlefield Trail is a 2.25-mile loop that gives you a glimpse into some of the events that took place during the Civil War in New Mexico.
Also referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West," this battle was a fight over who would take control of the west during the Civil War. After three days of fighting and more than 375 deaths, the Union Army ultimately won the battle. The picture above is the location of the Union right flank during the final day of battle.

As you walk along the Glorieta Battlefield Trail, imagine the events that took place in the area. However, pay attention as this trail is rated moderate and there are some steep, strenuous areas along the path.

To access this trailhead, you must enter a locked gate. To request access through the gate, step inside the Pecos National Historical Park Visitor Center. You can also pick up a trail guide for more information about this trail and the surrounding area. Entrance into this historical park is free.
