I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
When summer is upon us and the kids are out of school, it’s time to plan some fun adventures! Between water parks, adventure parks, state parks, museums, national monuments, and more, you can certainly stay busy all season long. But have you thought about exploring a friendly small town in New Mexico? An ideal destination for a day trip, Red River is one friendly small town!
Located in Taos County, Red River, New Mexico sits at an elevation of 8,750 feet. Because of this, the temperatures are a bit mild in the summer, making it a perfect destination to escape the heat.
Surrounded by the Sangre de Christo Mountains, there's no shortage of outdoor recreation or views here in Red River. Spend some time hiking, fishing, and exploring before heading into town.
This town's friendly vibe makes it an ideal place for tourists to visit. When taking a day trip here, make sure to stroll down Main Street and check out the unique boutiques, a candy store, restaurants, and more.
One of the biggest events Red River hosts each year is its 4th of July Parade & Celebration. Coming here for the holiday will give you a true sense of its welcoming community!
