The Land of Enchantment is full of unique places to stay, but this mountain town ski hill might top the list. If you’ve never stayed in a yurt before, it’s not quite “glamping,” but it’s not merely a tent either. If you love the outdoors, there’s nothing better than staying on this Red River ski hill, with the best views and most unique accommodations. These cozy yurts are the ultimate camping experience, no matter the season.
At Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area, you can camp upon the slopes in a yurt.
In the beautiful town of Red River, this ski hill is beloved by many near and far. Unlike many other ski areas, this one is enjoyable all year, and is quiet and relaxing. With views of Wheeler Peak, it doesn't get any more magical.
A yurt is a circular tent that was first used by nomads in Central Asia. They were often collapsible and portable so it was easy to relocate. Now, you can camp in them for a more comfortable experience than the average tent.
The ski area has three yurts, all of which can hold up to eight people. There’s the "Little John", "Long John", and "Midway". You can reserve a yurt for an affordable price. If you’re staying in a yurt, you’ll have access to all the trails at night, but be cautious as you’ll be on your own.

There’s nothing quite like "camping" in a yurt tent with such beautiful surroundings.
Camping in a yurt is just that—camping! Although the yurt is equipped with an outhouse, firewood, a stove, a lantern, and kitchen utensils, that’s it. You must bring your own sleeping bag, food, water, and snowshoes to transport to the yurt, although you can rent a gear sled for a fee. If you’re camping in the winter, make sure to bring adequate clothes.
If you love the outdoors but want a unique experience that’s a step up from "roughing it", yurt camping is perfect for you. With a perfect backdrop of Wheeler Peak, Enchanted Forest is the best of the best.
Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area is located just three miles from downtown Red River on Highway 38 at 29 Sangre de Cristo Drive, Red River, NM.
