There are plenty of nature spots in the Land of Enchantment to sit and enjoy true peace, but this sanctuary at a college in the sweet town of Las Vegas is one of the most peaceful places in New Mexico. The light seeps into this clean room and reflects off the walls, creating rainbow prisms that are purely wonderful. This space is welcoming for everyone and anyone, and is eschewed from any particular belief so that you can use the blank white walls as your own canvas to meditate, imagine, think, or simply wonder at the beautiful light creations that surround you in this quiet, peaceful temple of light in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Welcome to the Dwan Sanctuary. This temple of light is located inside United World College in Las Vegas, though anyone is allowed to come and sit in awe and wonder. Please check in at the Welcome Center upon arrival.
This amazing room is possibly the most peaceful in the state. This light sanctuary was created by Virginia Dwan who came up with the concept, Charles Ross who is a solar spectrum artist, and architect Laban Wingert. The sanctuary opened in 1996, and has been a place for contemplation ever since.
The space for this room was thought out carefully and uses the strong light that comes in from New Mexico's north. It's aligned perfectly based on the sun, moon, and stars, and six large prisms are sloped to catch light all day long.
While this is a sanctuary, it is not affiliated with one particular belief, but was intended to be used as an escape from the bustle and anxieties of life.
This refuge isn't just peaceful, it's also beautiful. The way the light catches creates colorful light reflections upon the wall. Basking in rainbow light is truly an astonishing experience.
The school is generally closed to the public, but the light temple can be accessed by anyone after first visiting the Welcome Center and obtaining an access key.
This amazing light sanctuary is truly a one-of-a-kind experience to escape from your day-to-day, meditate upon life, and bask in a beautiful temple of light. Dwan Light Sanctuary very well might be the most peaceful room in the country.
Address: 65 Montezuma Street, Las Vegas, NM, 87731.
