Our spooky day trip in New Mexico starts in Dawson. This is one small town that many New Mexicans don’t even know about, and for those who do, they typically stay away. Dawson is an old mining settlement that flourished to nearly 9,000 residents in the early 1900s. Unfortunately, tragedy struck, and in 1913, a massive mine explosion occurred killing hundreds of workers. A decade later, in 1923, another explosion occurred. Today, all that is left of this small town is a large cemetery that is located on private property. The St. James Hotel dates back to the late 1800s. During its early days, up to 26 murders occurred within its walls. Today, it is rumored that many spirits roam the hotel. The La Fonda on the Plaza is a historic hotel that has been in business since 1922, but the location of the hotel has always been used for one business or another since the 1600s. This hotel has an interesting history that involves destruction, rebuilding, and more. Hotel Parq Central is located on Central Avenue in Albuquerque. Today, this beautiful and luxurious hotel is a photo-worthy destination with its gorgeous guest rooms and beautiful rooftop lounge. However, this is another hotel that was originally a hospital and psychiatric facility in the 1900s, and the hauntings in this building date back to that time. There are reports of multiple spirits roaming the halls, whispers and voices, objects on the move, and more. The KiMo Theatre, built in 1927, has a sad story. In 1951, six-year-old Bobby Darnall was killed in a boiler explosion during a show at the theatre. To this day, it is believed that the ghost of Bobby still haunts the theatre and causes all types of mischievousness during performances such as tripping the cast, turning off lights, and more. Some guests have even claimed that they’ve seen Bobby playing on the staircase or the balcony in the theatre.
