If you are up for a challenge in the Land of Enchantment, there are many hikes for you to explore. One challenging hike — but with the most incredible rewards — is the Gold Hill Trail in the Carson National Forest. This difficult hike in New Mexico takes you to one of the peaks in the Sangre de Christo Range. Are you ready for the challenge?
The Gold Hill Trail is approximately 11.5-miles. This hiking trail is not for the faint of heart. You will climb more than 3,000 feet on this adventure.
This trail connects with several other trails including Wheeler Peak Trail and the Long Canyon Trail. This gives you several options for your climb. Click here to find a map of this trail.
Despite being a challenging climb, the Gold Hill Trail is likely one of the most beautiful hikes you’ll ever experience. While the end of this hike is certainly worth it, make sure you enjoy the journey.
The best time to hike the Gold Hill Trail is from late June to October. This trail can accumulate a lot of snow during the winter months. Additionally, be mindful of afternoon thunderstorms as you hike during the summer months.
