There is nothing better than spending time as a family outdoors and immersed in nature. Fortunately, there are several beautiful and family-friendly hikes in New Mexico just waiting to be explored. The Animas River Trail in Farmington is one of the best in the Land of Enchantment and is a trail the entire family will want to visit over and over again. This river trail is easy, beautiful, and well-maintained.
The Animas River Trail in New Mexico features more than 8 miles of trails. However, there are multiple access points so you can make this family-friendly adventure as long or short as you desire.
Depending on where you are on the trail, you may have one or two bridges to cross. As you make your way over these bridges, stop and admire the water beneath you. It is quite a sight!
A majority of this trail is paved, making it easy for strollers and wheelchairs to travel across. The rest of the trail is primarily packed dirt, which is usually easy to move across as well.
Even on hot, sunny days, the Animas River Trail is an excellent place to spend your time outdoors. Large portions of the trail are shaded, keeping you cool and comfortable as you explore.
In one portion of the trail, you’ll come to the All Veterans Memorial Plaza. Here, you can take a moment to honor and reflect on all of the brave men and women who have fought for our country and sacrificed their lives throughout the years.
