From festive holiday foods to spectacular Christmas light shows, there are numerous holiday traditions in New Mexico we look forward to each year. Here are some Christmas traditions in New Mexico you can add to your yearly celebrations:

  • Canyon Road Farolito Walk, Santa Fe, NM: This fun and luminous Christmas tradition in Santa Fe happens every Christmas Eve. It is an enchanting walk filled with paper bag lanterns called Farolitos. You may have heard of these as "luminarias" in other parts of the country and the world. Head to Canyon Road for a fun and festive walk along streets and houses lined with these beautiful Farolitos.
  • Tumbleweed Snowman, Albuquerque, NM: This quirky tradition makes use of the many, sometimes gigantic, tumbleweeds that blow through Albuquerque. For around 30 years, this tradition has enchanted and welcomed guests to the town along I-40. Mr. Frosty stands 14 feet tall with his signature blue hat made from a 55-gallon drum. When you drive into town, be sure to give him a quick wave.
  • Christmas on the Pecos, Carlsbad, NM: Tour the Pecos River in holiday style with this fun boat tour. You'll have your chance to cruise the river from around Thanksgiving until the end of December. The highlight of the tour is the hundreds of homes along the route that decorate their yards and homes with impressive light shows.
