New Jersey is so full of history, and you never know when you’ll stumble upon something fascinating. The Pine Barrens are known for their many glass and iron works locations, where manufacturing and industry took hold and shaped the population and environment for years to come. Today, you can find the remnants of these glassworks and ironworks all over the area – but they’re not as common farther north in the state. One exception is the Ironworks village at Speedwell Lake Park, one of Morristown’s top outdoor attractions.
Speedwell Park is a one-of-a-kind destination in Morristown, New Jersey.
Not only will you find beautiful hiking and biking trails that take you past stunning scenery, but you'll also find one of New Jersey's most recognizable waterfalls - the Speedwell Park Spillway!
The Speedwell Spillway is part of the park that preserves and pays tribute to the Speedwell Ironworks, which existed on this site dating back to the early 1800s.
Much of the ironworks site is preserved today, and walking through the Speedwell area is like stepping back in time.

The Spillway itself may be one of the most photographed sites in all of New Jersey - particularly in the fall, when the colors of autumn dominate the scene.
You'll feel like you've walked back into the 19th century when you visit this park, which is open to the public and includes cottages, carriage houses, and other remnants of what life was like in this area during the 1800s.
The waterfront views create an oasis in the middle of a bustling North Jersey town, and you'll hardly believe you're so close to the densely populated counties that surround Morristown.
