This Road Trip To New Jersey’s Most Majestic Castles Is Like Something From A Fairytale
New Jersey is home to over a dozen castles, but many are private residences or have been converted into business spaces. Still, us average folk don’t need to miss out on the magnificence. I’ve created a quick castle road trip that’s both easy and enchanting.

Sure, this may just be a Starbucks, but it's a wonderful way to kick off this castle road trip. Enjoy coffee and pastries fit for a king or queen, and try to score a coveted tower seat.

Lambert Castle is located on the beautiful Garret Mountain Reservation. You can score amazing views of the park from the castle's recently restored observation tower and then explore the museum, which is handicap accessible. There are three floors of exhibits featuring historical period rooms, art and artifacts. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for children 5-17 and free for children under age 5. Guided tours of the first floor are available on select weekdays.

Located on a 10-acre park spanning Montclair and Verona, this 9,000 square foot estate (with a 6,000 square foot carriage house) is accessible to the public seasonally (beginning March 1st). Free to visit, the first floor is open for self-guided tours Tuesdays-Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.. The park is open year-round.

End your castle adventure by taking in a show at this family-friendly theatre. Upcoming performances include "A Fairytale Princess Tea Party" (3/4-3/25), "King Charles III" (4/7-4/23) and "Annie Jr." (7/8-7/22). You can also enjoy special one night only events like Battle Of The Sexes (2/11) and Romeo & Juliet (5/12).
This easy trip is ideal for a full day of family fun, an adventure with friends, or even a special date. I’d recommend taking this road trip in the warmer months so that you can fully enjoy the grounds if you wish. For more New Jersey castles, click here.
