Certain cities are absolute paradise for foodies… You can’t take a single step in New York City without discovering some incredible restaurant and New Orleans is overflowing with mouthwatering creole cuisine. When it comes to states, though, there’s not one that can compete with New Jersey’s level of flavor per square mile or our dining diversity. Our local restaurants can’t be beat, with gems like Zeppoli in Collingswood and Highlawn Tavern in West Orange, but what if you want…fast food? Chain eats may be the way to go! New Jersey has sandwich chains (Jersey Mike’s), fried chicken chains (KFC), taco chains (Taco Bell), burger chains (Sonic) and many more. We’re glad to add Mediterranean chains to that list!
CAVA is a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant, based out of Maryland. It recently opened a New Jersey location.
CAVA's very first New Jersey eatery is located at 30 Montgomery Street in Jersey City. It fits right in to the bustling Exchange Place neighborhood it resides in. A bit more upscale than say, McDonald's, I'd call it the Panera of Mediterranean cuisine.
Fresh, bright, and modern, the eatery is both welcoming and efficient.
Opened in the summer of 2017, this spot has been a hit! Reviewers rave about the atmosphere, cleanliness, friendly servers and, of course, delicious food.
Patrons can build their own salads (with SuperGreens, Organic Arugula, Spinach, Romaine, or SplendidGreens), grain bowls (with Saffron Basmati Rice, Brown Basmati Rice, or Black Lentils), and pitas. There are six "bases" to choose from - salad, greens + grains, grain bowl, pita, mini-pita, and pita + soup. Then, customize to your heart's delight. Everything is fresh and delicious.
According to the CAVA website, there are 58,978,800 total combinations. I'm not going to list them all here but you can choose from dips and spreads including hummus and crazy feta (jalepeno-infused feta mousse) and protein options including falafel, lamb, chicken, and beef. Other toppings include pickled onions, mint, banana peppers, olives, and lemon wedges.
Finish your creation with a dressing like spicy lime tahini or sriracha Greek yogurt. Then, grab a side (pita chips!) and drinks. You won't find soda, but there are some amazing sparkling waters - cucumber, grapefruit, raspberry lime, and more.
You won’t feel bad after eating this fast food. In fact, you’ll probably feel fantastic. You can order ahead and pick up your meal for added convenience. If you’re nowhere near 30 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, two other CAVA locations have recently opened in the Garden State – 2701 Bergen Town Center, Paramus and 620 Commons Way, Suite 4100, Bridgewater. However, there are plenty of reasons to visit the original Jersey City location – it’s just seconds away from the Russian Museum of Art and a quick drive or light rail ride to Liberty Science Center.
