Round Valley Reservoir was created in the 1960s by flooding a serene farming valley. Today, the remnants of the town remain beneath the surface of New Jersey’s largest reservoir, and the area surrounding the lake has been turned into a beautiful recreation area, with areas for hiking, camping, scuba diving, kayaking, and swimming. Round Valley Reservoir is one of the best places to go for a dip in the summertime, and visitors find that this Central Jersey swimming hole is scenic and serene.
Did you know that one of the best Central Jersey swimming holes is actually an enormous man-made reservoir? Round Valley is the largest reservoir in the state, and its beach and swimming area are fantastic spots to cool off in the heat of the summer.
The swimming area is only open when lifeguards are on duty, so be sure to check the New Jersey Parks website to confirm each season's hours and opening dates, as they vary based on weather, conditions, and staffing.
