Few things delight me more than a summer spent at the shore. I’m entirely enamored with Cape May, which I’ve covered countless times, so today I’m featuring another fantastic destination…Beach Haven! The tiny town (population 1,100) makes for a perfect (Long Beach) island getaway. There’s plenty to do, and I’ve planned out a suggested itinerary for you! Feel free to switch things up, but I do hope you enjoy this…
Friday
Check in at Victoria Guest House Bed & Breakfast. Located at 126 Amber Street, it features 5-star reviews on booth Google and TripAdvisor. Enjoy the outdoor pool, bicycles, borrowing library, and buffet breakfast. Relax for a bit before heading out to dinner at... The Gables! Another amazing place to spend the night, this bed and breakfast is also home to the most romantic restaurant on the Jersey Shore. Dinner under the stars in their garden is an unforgettable experience. Menus change daily but you can expect the freshest, most flavorful food around; much of it is locally sourced. I'm almost certain you'll be blown away! Find The Gables at 212 Centre Street.
Saturday
After breakfast, head to the beach! Rent a surf or paddle-board at South End Surf-N-Paddle if you feel like a thrill. Simply reading a book while sunbathing works, too. Next, grab lunch at one of the many magnificent restaurants in town including Biggy's Beach Grill (Caribbean), Barry's Do Me A Flavor (eclectic casual grub), Carol's Organic Eatery (vegan/vegetarian), and Parker's Garage & Oyster Saloon (seafood and more). Depending on your interests, check out a 2 p.m. show at Surflight Theater OR head to Fantasy Island Amusement Park. Summer shows at Surflight include Holiday Inn, Mamma Mia!, Matilda, and Ain't Misbehavin'. If you choose the amusement park, enjoy a wide variety of rides (19 as of last season) and arcade games. What next? A sunset cruise (7 p.m.) aboard the Black Pearl on the calm, protected waters of Little Egg Harbor. End your fun-filled day at the iconic eatery, The Chicken Or The Egg (207 North Bay Avenue). Their menu is "big, beautiful, and guaranteed to please," but you absolutely have to try their wings! There are a variety of flavors, from mild to mouth-numbing. Finish your meal with a fudge brownie sundae or cinnamon roll ice cream sandwich.
Sunday
If you'd like to try breakfast outside your B&B, head to Uncle Will's (3 South Bay Avenue). What to get? You really can't go wrong, but I'd recommend the Jersey Blueberry pancakes. Next, it's a museum adventure! Both the New Jersey Maritime Museum (528 Dock Road) and Long Beach Island Museum (247 N Beach Avenue) are open from 10-4 on summer Sundays. The maritime museum focuses on New Jersey shipwrecks and maritime disasters, with an entire room dedicated to the Morro Castle. The LBI history museum offers a wide variety of exhibits including those on local boats, baymen's tools, whale bones and fossils, and plenty more. When you're ready for dinner, head to Tucker's Tavern (101 S. West Avenue). They've got a great atmosphere, deck, and delectable menu with dishes like roasted lamb tacos, loaded kobe beef dogs, and wild mushroom ravioli. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing.
Monday
After you've savored breakfast and checked out of your amazing accommodations, head out for a round or two of mini golf at Setller's Mill Adventure Golf (part of Thundering Surf Waterpark). Found at 300 Taylor Avenue, they've been voted among the best mini-golf spots in the Garden State. Finishing off a fantastically fun weekend, it's time to head home...
Unless, you want to extend your trip! The fun never ends at the Jersey Shore. You could always head to Cape May !
