This Iconic Restaurant In New Jersey Just Might Serve The Best Barbecue In The Entire World
I’ve heard some say that New Jersey is a barbecue wasteland, but I disagree. We may not be known for our barbecue but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some great places to get it. A few favorites include Henri’s Hotts Barbeque in Hammonton, Red, White & Que Smokehouse in Kearny, and the iconic Cubby’s BBQ in Hackensack.

In a very strange twist, the owner of Cubby's is something of a diplomat. Here's how it all began...Robert Egan is both a former small time criminal and an FBI informant. Throughout the '90s and into the early '00s, he traveled regularly to North Korea, picking up some interesting allies along the way. Befriending diplomats, he would take them fishing and they would also stop by his eatery to talk about peace and plenty more. Based out of NYC, Cubby's BBQ is just within their 10-mile travel radius. While not an official diplomat, his relationship with North Korea was kind of a big deal, and big names stopped by his Hackensack shop including Minister Kim Myong G.

The BBQ ribs fall right off the bone! Everything from the meat to the sauce is spectacular. A local favorite, it frequently scores rave reviews. Customers and critics all seem to agree that the food is fantastic - NJ monthly named them a top BBQ joint in 2015. After 34 years in business, you know they're doing something right. What to try? Definitely the ribs or steak! Not into either? The menu offers chicken, a wide variety of burgers, hot dogs, sides like onion rings and more.
Have you ever been to Cubby’s? You can find it at 249 South River Street in Hackensack. They are open daily at 11 a.m., until 9 p.m. or later. To discover another great BBQ restaurant in New Jersey, click here.
