You've Never Seen Anything Like This Unique New Jersey Home
New Jersey residents are a unique bunch; we’re innovators, always thinking outside the box. This has led to some pretty impressive inventions along with some truly incredible homes. One of these homes incorporates an aircraft hangar in a wonderfully whimsical way.

New Jersey-based architect Adam Kalkin creates custom container homes and buildings. His designs have been used to house galleries and cafes, but one of his most unique works houses his family.

Located in Bernardsville, this funky space may seem industrial on the outside, but I can't imagine a more incredible place to grow up. A pre-fab structure like this would typically be used as an aircraft hangar, but you can see that it makes for a lovely living space.

But the hangar isn't the primary living space, it holds an unexpected surprise - an entire home. Like a ship in a bottle, this farmhouse dating back to the late 1800s is encased in the hangar. The hangar extends the indoor living space, adding play and office areas. It is heated, with floor to ceiling windows bringing in lots of light.

The extended living area easily opens to the outdoors via a massive gate. When open, the hangar becomes more like a porch or patio. It's urban and rural all at once and incredibly open, creating such a spectacular space.
