Fall is the perfect time for a day trip destination in New Jersey. Not only is the weather appropriately cool for outdoor activities, but the changing leaves enhance the beauty of every place in the state. One spot in particular we love during the fall is a historic lakefront town with plenty of activities for people of all ages.
Historic Smithville is the perfect fall day trip destination.
Located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, this area was once a stagecoach shop. Now, it's home to over 60 restaurants and shops.
This center feels like stepping back in time.
The historic Smithville Inn is the center of Smithville. After noticing it was in disrepair, Fred and Ethel Noyes built it back up and developed the surrounding village in the 1950s. Ever since, it's been a popular tourist destination.
You'll find ice cream shops, toy stores, and gorgeous restaurants here.
Most are housed in period-style recreations or in restored structures.
Children, in particular, will love the train ride, the carousel, and the row boats here.
Adults, meanwhile, will enjoy perusing the shops and sampling the restaurants.
The best time to visit Historic Smithville, which is open year-round, is during the fall.
It's just so beautiful being on the lake here then!
The contrast of the colorful, changing leaves against the shimmering lake is just breathtakingly beautiful.
Plus, Historic Smithville regularly hosts fun and interesting events in the fall!
But if you can't make it during the fall, don't worry — the town is lit up during the winter months.
It's also a great Christmastime destination.
Make sure to check the calendar before visiting Historic Smithville!
