New Jersey is home to a variety of well-known animal rescues and wildlife sanctuaries including Popcorn Park Animal Refute and Lakota Wolf Preserve but there are a few you may not be aware of yet. One is Under My Wing, an exotic bird sanctuary.
If you love birds, you'll want to learn more about Under My Wing Avian Refuge in Wantage.
The refuge provides 'captive birds with individualized care, the companionship of a flock, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being.'
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for those age 5 and up. You can make a regular commitment or participate in monthly enrichment workshops. Make toys, feed birds, help them socialize, and more! A financial sponsorship offers you the opportunity to come meet the birds, with the possibility of ongoing visitation. What a great way to get close to these cuddly creatures!
Cuddly? Yes! In a sense… They can be very affectionate and absolutely adorable. With a long lifespan, they deserve owners who are able to provide long term, loving care. To learn more, visit the Under My Wing Avian Refuge website and watch the short video below. Consider donating or volunteering if you are able – they are a top-rated charity on Great Nonprofits(.org). Have you visited before? Share your parrot stories and photos in the comments!
