New Jersey is a great state for family fun and there are many ways to have it. While you can take the kids to watch thrilling races at the track (the Garden State has several), there’s an adorable alternative that everyone will love. Enter the Ducky Derby. You’ll find a variety but this is a favorite…
The Historic Village At Allaire is a living history museum on the site of James P. Allaire’s Howell Iron Works Company dating back to the 1830s. Many of the original structures remain. Frequent special events and period actors bring the past to life here.
There will be rubber duck races at Mill Pond every 30 minutes, with prizes going to the winners. The first ducky race begins at 11:30 - races are just $1 to enter. Ducks are numbered - it's fun to watch and root for your number to win.
And there's more duck-themed fun to be found! There will be duck games and activities, a ducky selfie station, a ducky draw, and ducky fishing. There will also be duck merchandise available at the incredible general store.
But this event isn't all ducks, all the time... there's more! There will be costumed characters, live demonstrations in the historic buildings, historical stations and demos on the Howell Works Water System, music, and other fun to be had.
The event is free, and parking is just $5 per car. There is a nominal fee for certain activities. Address: 4263 Atlantic Avenue, Farmingdale, NJ, 07727
Root for your duck, and feel good knowing that you're supporting an incredible non-profit along the way. Let's keep the Historic Village at Allaire in tip top shape, all while having fun.
This is a perfect summer day adventure for families, especially with children between the ages of 2-14. Have you been to the ducky derby or Allaire Village before? What did you think? For more on what you can find in their fantastic general store, click here.
