There’s nothing quite like visiting a longtime favorite restaurant and stepping back in time. Classic, nostalgic restaurants earn their charm by staying the same over decades, and one of the best examples of this in New Jersey is the legendary Rutt’s Hut.
Rutt's Hut has been part of the Clifton landscape since 1928. Abe and Anna Rutt opened the spot to serve the community and make their lifelong dream a reality. They held on to the restaurant until the mid-1970s when it was sold to the family that runs it now.
Though nearly a century has passed since the Rutts opened this restaurant, only a few things have changed! It still feels like you're stepping back in time when you walk in the door.
Unlike traditional hot-dog stands, Rutt's Hut is a full-service restaurant, and you can order a drink and relax while your food is prepared and served.
So, what makes Rutt's Hut so famous? Their deep fried hot dogs, of course! The original dog, the Ripper, is a local favorite. You can also order an In-And-Out, which is more lightly fried, or a Cremator, which is... well, absolutely charred.
To take a look at the menu and find their most up-to-date hours, visit Rutt’s Hut online. The hours do change seasonally, so be sure to check before heading out on a trip to dine here.
