Cheesesteaks are a Philadelphia food scene staple, and it’s not surprising that love for these steak sandwiches has trickled over into New Jersey. You can find really good cheesesteaks in both north and south Jersey, but there’s one spot in Camden and Burlington County that’s made headlines just about everywhere for serving up the best cheesesteaks in the state. Donkey’s Place has a location in Camden, in Medford, and in Mount Holly.
Despite being a "Philly" specialty, many agree that this Jersey steak shop is the best of the best.
The Camden restaurant was established in 1943 and has drawn people from all over the region.
Their cheesesteaks are made with the same time-tested recipe in each of their three locations, so whether you visit the original in Camden, the second spot in Medford, or the newest location in downtown Mount Holly, you're in for a treat.
One thing you'll notice right away is that these cheesesteaks are served on poppy seeded kaiser rolls. That's a break from the usual hoagie roll, but for some reason it just works.
Another thing that makes Donkey's steaks stand out is the spice mix used to season the meat. It's absolutely packed with flavor and compliments the perfectly cooked steak.
You can order your cheesesteak however you'd like - even without cheese - but most people get theirs with onions and cheese melted and mixed in. That's the traditional way to enjoy them.
Come on down to Donkey's Place, Donkey's Too, or Donkey's Place Downtown to enjoy the best cheesesteaks in New Jersey - and maybe the best cheesesteaks in the Philly area.
