New Jersey is home to some incredible bakeries. Many of us are familiar with Carlo’s Bakery (from TLC’s Cake Boss), Kara Kakes, Calandra’s, and B&W (with heavenly crumb cake!), for starters. But we’ve got a lot more than that. If you’re up for a delicious journey, discover a few lesser-known but equally amazing Garden State gems on this bakery road trip. Because it’s a road trip, it needs to be a feasible drive. This route focuses on the western side of our state, from north to south (or south to north). I’ve also listed a few favorites across New Jersey at the end of this article, in hopes you’ll be able to find something new near you.
This family-owned bakery offers a large selection of freshly baked treats on a daily basis. You'll find delicious breads, Italian pastries, and more. In addition to Pignoli Cookies, Sfogliatelle, and Biscotti, they've got cakes, brownies, donuts, and delectable Danishes.
Sweet Melissa Patisserie is one of Hunterdon County's best bakeries! They are known for their fine French and American pastries but also offer a savory breakfast and lunch menu. The selection is on the smaller side but everything is delicious - the focus is on quality over quantity.
We're grateful to have such an incredible bakery in the Garden State! The perfect place for anyone with a sweet tooth, you'll find award-winning cakes, cookies, pies, pastries, and more. They've got everything from mouthwatering macarons to mini-tarts and you really can't go wrong. Vegan and gluten-free options are available. An added bonus? The profits support an amazing organization. Learn more here.
The friendly staff treats customers like family but even more than that, the desserts are delectable. This shop started out selling cakes but has expanded into a full-service bakery with muffins, scones, cinnamon buns, and the beloved Trenton Volcano (brioche stuffed with Case's pork roll, spinach, cheddar, and swiss topped with everything bagel seasoning).
Cupcakes are the star of the show here but they also have delicious hot cocoa bombs. The selection varies by day but you can always count on finding something good.
This modern, gourmet bakery serves up delightful desserts and delicious breads. The menu will make your mouth water and you won't want to miss their version of Pop Tarts.
If you're a chocolate lover, head here to find some of the best cocoa bombs in South Jersey. They offer a variety of flavors, along with oatmeal cream pies and cakesicles. They're like popsicles, but better. You'll find a variety of keto and gluten-free options.
