Curious about how many steps in Cape May Lighthouse? When you're there, you walk 199 steps up the original iron-cast staircase to the top. It starts out pretty easy, but believe me, as you head further up, you'll definitely feel it!

Along the climb, you're entertained by panels that tell the story of the lighthouse, the surrounding area, and past lighthouse keepers.
And you can also get some interesting views from the peepholes. I stopped at each and every one to look...and take a breather!

You get panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Delaware Bay, and the surrounding area. On a clear day, you can even see into Delaware! Who knew that visiting Cape May Lighthouse would let you see into Delaware? Now we both do!

The Cape May Lighthouse certainly is not all there is to see. Check out some other lighthouses in New Jersey:

Barnegat Lighthouse: This 1859 lighthouse in Ocean County has 217 steps to the top where you’ll be rewarded with views of Long Beach Island and Island Beach. While you are here, check out the rest of the park and its opportunities for hiking, fishing, and picnicking.

Sandy Hook Lighthouse: Located in Middletown and in service since 1754, this is the oldest working lighthouse in America. Schedule a tour of it to learn about its unique history. You can also do quite a bit here as you are on the grounds of Fort Hancock.

Atsion Lake: This 100-acre lake is located in Wharton State Forest. The water is nice and clear and there are restrooms and changing rooms on site. While here, you can also grab something to eat at the concession stand, walk some of the pathways, or take the kids to the playground.
