It’s finally here! The 36th Annual Blueberry Festival at Whitesbog, that is. A family favorite and local tradition, there’s lots to do. Blueberries are at the center of it all, of course. You’ll find fun and lots of flavor here!
Whitesbog Village is a historic company town and farm with 25 historic buildings, blueberry farm fields, cranberry bogs, hiking trails, reservoirs, streams, a picnic grove, and the Elizabeth White Gardens.
In the early 1900s, Whitesbog was the largest cranberry farm in New Jersey and its founder, Joseph J. White, was a nationally recognized leader in the cranberry industry. In 1916, his daughter, Elizabeth C. White (pictured) collaborated with Dr. Frederick A. Coville of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and successfully developed the first cultivated blueberry at Whitesbog.
Sample all sorts of blueberry-themed dishes including locally made pies, muffins, cakes, jams, preserves, fried blueberries, blueberry drinks, blueberry wine, cider, syrup and so much more. There's also a kids Pie Eating Contest.
There will also be tractor-pulled wagon rides to the blueberry field to pick heirloom berries, local handmade craft vendors, local folk music, and berries for sale from a local blueberry farm.
But there's more! There will be an art show, free workshops, demonstrations, and exhibits. Stop in the Barrel Factory to learn about local ecology, farms, food, music and see the screening of our Harvesting Stories video collection of stories from the region's farmers and residents.
There’s also a charming general store and entire historic site to visit! Sound fun? It’s just $5 per carload and it supports the preservation of Whitesbog Village. The festival will be held from10 am to 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday, June 22 & 23. Address: 799 Lakehurst Road, Browns Mills, NJ, 08015. Learn more on their website here.
