New Jersey is home to some very fascinating places and one-of-a-kind attractions. I’m consistently in awe of all we offer and every day, I discover something new. I’m particularly excited about a recent discovery, especially because I’m a big fan of food, friends and being outdoors, but I don’t really “do” cold.
Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten has always been a wonderful place to visit.
Since its opening in 2015, this gorgeous biergarten has been bringing people together. They host frequent activities including fundraisers and live music events and their dining area features communal tables. What you won't find is televisions - emphasis is placed on social interaction, not distractions. Offering both indoor space and a rooftop garden, this is a year-round destination.
There's always something fun going on and, to give you an idea of what to expect, I'll share a few fantastic past events with you. They host an annual Irish Whiskey Festival with potato pancakes (and whiskey samples) to benefit the local St. Patrick's Day Parade. (This year's festival was held on 1/25 but it will likely be back again.) You'll also find traditional German holiday markets, a Belgian bier festival, and pumpkin keg carving. They're ever so creative!
Asbury Festhalle offers over 40 draft beers and 70 bottled options, including American craft beers. The menu consists of classic biergarten fare including wursts, schnitzel and more. Popular picks include the Bavarian Brezel and Jaeger Schnitzel. It's very authentic and full of flavor, and the desserts (including Apfelstrudel and Bavarian Cream) are to die for. Plus, you can always score great deals. Tuesdays mean two for one wursts after 7 p.m. and each Sunday is Schnitzel Sunday ($10 from 7-10 p.m.).
They were introduced last winter and are back again thanks to their success. From the roof, you can enjoy lovely sunset and waterfront views, all from the comfort of your heated retreat. Igloos must be reserved in advance and can be rented for $200. While this might sound like a lot, you get 3 hours of igloo time, and igloos can fit up to 10 people - split the bill with friends. Additionally, that $200 is a minimum spend, so the cost of your food and drinks will go towards the total. (It isn't in addition to the $200.)
Whether you're just enjoying a special night out or are getting together for a birthday gathering, the igloos add something extra, something unique. You'll be nice and cozy inside, while looking up at the sky! You'll also get to enjoy warm (spiked) drinks and a special menu. Best of all, you're minutes from the beach and popular local attractions like the Pinball Museum.
Find the igloos at 527 Lake Avenue in Asbury Park. The festhalle closes at 2 a.m. daily, it opens at 4 on weekdays and noon on weekends. Have you been to Asbury Feshalle & Biergarten? Were you familiar with their igloos? I absolutely can’t wait to check them out…I just need to wrangle up a few friends. To learn more about Asbury Park and what it has to offer, click here.
