Two Of The Nation's Best Beaches Are Right Here In New Jersey...And You Need To Visit Them

Two of our favorite beach destinations, Asbury Park and Cape May were recently ranked among the "25 Best Beach Cities In America" by popular lifestyle site, Thrillist.

The two towns are undeniably different, but equally amazing. Asbury Park is a bit on the edgy side, still recovering from tough times. A mix of fantastic new businesses and shore staples, it's currently one of the hippest towns along the shore. So hip, in fact, that it was also named a top travel destination in the WORLD by Travel & Leisure Magazine.

Cape May, one of the country's first shore resorts, is loaded with history and charm. Quaint, with plenty to do, this beloved beach town is well known for its gorgeous architecture.

Asbury Park is easy to access from North and Central New Jersey, along with New York City. It offers a fantastic boardwalk along with iconic music venues. Can't miss attractions in the city include Silverball Pinball Museum (a retro arcade/museum hybrid), the legendary Stone Pony, Wonder Bar (bring your dog to yappy hour!), the Asbury Splash Park (great for kids), Paranormal Books & Curiosities (a supernatural store + museum) and Asbury Lanes (bowling, brews, great food, live music + more).

Dine at MOGO Korean Fusion Tacos, Moonstruck (great balcony views), Brickwall Tavern (the best burgers and grits), Toast (for brunch) and Hoagitos (tiny sandwiches that are big on flavor). Stay at Hotel Tides (boutique hotel with pool/spa), Empress Hotel (right by the beach) and The Asbury Hotel (luxurious and modern).

Cape May draws in crowds from all over including South Jersey, Philadelphia, Maryland and Delaware. Can't miss attractions include the Cape May/Lewes Ferry (a lovely boat ride), Cape May Whale Watcher (offering much more than whale watching), the Emlen Physick Estate (haunted history), the Cape May Zoo (recently named one of the best zoos in America AND a free attraction), Cape May Lighthouse and the Washington Mall (fantastic shopping and unique boutiques).

Dine at Peter Shields (inn and restaurant), The Mad Batter (a personal favorite with an amazing menu), Union Park Dining Room and Hot Dog Tommy's (casual spot for great franks). Stay at Ocean Club Hotel or La Mer Beachfront Inn for a 4-star experience, Hotel Macomber for a supernatural stay, the Southern Mansion (loaded with charm) or Madison Avenue Beach Club (pet friendly). While you're here, stop at Cape May Peanut Butter Co. and fall in love with unique flavors like habanero and carrot cake. Sandwiches are available (and incredible) and friendly pets are welcome.
