A Drone Flew Over The Battleship New Jersey And Captured Mesmerizing Footage
The Battleship New Jersey is one of the Garden State’s most fascinating attractions. We do have quite a few (Grounds For Sculpture, Liberty Science Center, Wharton State Forest…) but this massive vessel is absolutely a must visit. Located on the Delaware River, you don’t want to miss out simply because it’s in Camden. You’ll find the ship adjacent to a picturesque park that also houses a children’s garden and Adventure Aquarium. I have absolutely no issues visiting and the experience that awaits you is one-of-a-kind. The footage we’ve featured today is also one-of-a-kind, likely to lure you straight to the museum for a visit! But before we get to the video, let’s take a look at this ship’s significant history.
USS New Jersey is an Iowa-class battleship, and was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named after the state of New Jersey. She earned more battle stars for combat actions than any other Iowa-class battleship, and was the only US battleship providing gunfire support during the Vietnam War. New Jersey was commissioned on May 23, 1943 and decommissioned for the last time in 1991 (after serving a total of 21 years in the active fleet). In addition to her role in the Vietnam War, the USS New Jersey actively participated in World War II, the Korean War, the Lebanese Civil War, and served in the Persian Gulf. In 2001, she began her illustrious career as a museum ship.
Today, you can take tours of this brilliant battleship and experience history firsthand. The self-guided Fire Power Tour is available every day during operating hours. This tour offers the option to carry an audio wand which provides additional information. The Turret II Tour is a guided tour with limited times and guest maximums. You’ll also find a visitor center, 4-D flight simulator, concession stand, and their BattleShop (gift shop). The ships hosts frequent events including upcoming Twilight Tours (March 22nd), a Spring Fling Family Fun Day (March 30th), and a Vietnam War Living History Day (April 7th). Family Fun Day offers discounted pricing, face painting, temporary tattoos and balloon artists. Living History Day will have re-enactors, authentic artifacts, and more.
