New Jersey has some pretty incredible secrets, from covered bridges (Green Sergeant’s Covered Bridge near Stockton) to giant murals (the Yankee Doodle Tap Room in Princeton is home to Norman Rockwell’s largest painting), and I’ve come across another that everyone should know about. Now, it’s certainly not a secret to locals, but it’s a destination worth traveling for.
This is Liberty Farm, and it offers a unique specialty.
Garlic! They even offer homemade garlic jelly. Producing 5 types of garlic used by gourmet chefs all over New Jersey, they also harvest fresh fruits and veggies and are purveyors of gourmet popcorn. Another unique feature is the 12 honeybee hives which lead to some sweet nectar.
But that's not their secret! They're home to an epic sunflower maze.
With over 1.5 million sunflowers, and 3 miles of trails, it's the largest sunflower maze on the east coast. It was also the first sunflower maze in New Jersey!
The maze will be open from August 18-September 23, depending on Mother Nature. It is pet friendly, though dogs must be leashed. As the maze can reach capacity, please call before driving a long distance.
You can reach them at (973) 219-6356. The address is 101 County Road 645, Branchville. Though surely one of the most spectacular sunflower mazes around, they aren’t the only spot to enjoy these towering gems in New Jersey. Click here to discover another sunflower adventure in the Garden State.
