We won’t pretend that the best part of any meal isn’t dessert. Let’s just get that out of the way. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner ending with the perfect bite of something sweet wraps a nice little bow on the entire experience. We’re not particularly picky when it comes to dessert, but we’ve always had a hard time denying ourselves a slice of pie. Even better is taking home the whole thing! If you agree, you’ll want to make a trip to this restaurant and bakery. They might just have the best pie in the state!
Lou's Restaurant in Hanover is a favorite among Dartmouth students and locals. And, it's easy to see why!
First a coffee shop, Lou's was the dream of Lou Bressett, a U.S. Marine veteran. He invested in a failing restaurant on Main Street and opened his own version on April 11th, 1947.
But it's that display of pies that most people look at first when they walk in. It's always full of a huge selection, ranging in flavors from fruit to chocolate.
And while we love them all, the ones that are made with seasonal and local ingredients are definitely favorites. Check out this blueberry pie made with New Hampshire Bascom Road Farm berries.
Pair any of them with ice cream and you're in for a treat. Stop in to see what they have on any given day and plan ahead to take home a whole one to enjoy for days. If it lasts that long!
Lou’s Restaurant is open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can learn more about them by visiting their website, or follow them on Facebook. You can reach them on 603-643-3321.
