In our modern era, it’s sometimes easy to forget the hardships that our predecessor went through just to do simple things like keep their food cold – after all, there weren’t exactly refrigerators in the 19th century. A day at this museum will remind you of the historical reality of life in New Hampshire, plus provide a really fun outing in the process.
Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm in Tamworth is beautiful and fascinating any time of year, but there's one annual festival coming up that you won't want to miss.
You'll get the chance to learn all about traditional ice harvesting, piking, and hoisting, and understand how generations of New Hampshirites preserved food and made money.
You'll also see demonstrations from all sorts of experts, both in ice harvesting and ice sculpting, listen to live music, enjoy lunch made at the farm, and have the chance to enjoy crafts and scavenger hunts.
Of course, a highlight of any visit to the farm is the chance to visit with their animals, which are especially wooly and adorably in their winter coats.
The Remick Country Doctor’s Museum and Farm will take place on Saturday, February 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s $10 per person for adults and children over 11, $5 for children 5-10, and free for children 4 and under.
