Hey! I'm a freelance writer and guidebook author. I've authored "New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide", serve as editor of Appalachian Mountain Club's "Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide", and and am co-editor of the "White Mountain Guide", also for AMC. I'm currently beginning work on the 6th Edition of AMC's Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide, which will be published in 2025. I live in southern New Hampshire and can usually be found wandering throughout the state's mountains and forests.
There’s no better way to see the countryside than from a train. The sights of the world passing by can be very relaxing. Pair that with some fine wining and dining and you’ve got yourself an unforgettable trip. In North Woodstock, the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train provides such an experience.
The Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train offers a unique and different dining experience. This two-hour train ride through the scenic White Mountains includes a complete five-course dinner aboard restored vintage rail cars from the 1950s. The train runs from May through October.
The excursion travels 20 miles through the Pemigewasset River valley along an historic railroad corridor formerly used by the Boston & Maine Railroad in the 1800s. Departing from North Woodstock, New Hampshire, the ride heads south through the countryside before returning via the same route.
Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train's professional chefs prepare each meal in the kitchen car before its brought to your comfortable and cozy table in the dining car.
The train's menu is mostly set, but guests will have their choice of appetizer and entrée after they have boarded. Not to worry though; there's something on the menu for everyone.
When your meal arrives, sit back and relax as the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train rolls through some of the most pleasant scenery in New Hampshire right outside your window!
