There’s something about a good old-fashioned general store that’s just undeniably New England – stepping into one, with their candy jars and pickle barrels, just brings you straight back in time. That’s especially true at the Brick Store in Bath, New Hampshire – it’s been in operation since 1790, making it the oldest continuously operating general store in the entire country, and on the National Register of Historic Places! If you haven’t yet visited this amazing spot, make your plans as soon as you can.
In 2016, it looked like the Brick Store's long history was coming to an end when the long-time owners were forced by difficult financial circumstances to sell. Luckily, new owners came in with the vision of keeping the store's spirit alive – they spruced it up a bit without changing the things that the customers adore.
The store stocks fantastic local products and gifts, as well as a nice selection of gourmet food items.
Mixed in with the modern products and gifts, you'll find plenty of mementos and decorative objects that beckon back to earlier days in the store's history.
You won't be able to resist the amazing candy counter, which features all manner of retro favorites – but the real star of the show is the scrumptious homemade fudge.
The smoked pepperoni they sell is like nothing you've had before, and it keeps loyal customers coming back over and over. You can get great sandwiches made right in front of you, too!
After trying the smoked pepperoni, people tend to develop cravings, no matter how far they travel – but luckily enough, the store now has online ordering for the pepperoni, maple syrup, and other favorite products!
If your'e onsite and craving a refreshing treat, you're in luck. Attached to the store you'll find At The Hop, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor with record-themed decor. The frappes are to die for!
You can find the Brick Store at 21 Lisbon Road (Route 302), Bath, New Hampshire .
