Although the French macaron has become an increasingly popular dessert over the last decade, in some parts of the United States it can still be difficult to find an authentic-tasting version of this colorful treat. Luckily for residents of southern New Hampshire, Sweet! Macaron has stepped up to the plate.

Owner Lindsay LaRouche first began selling her macarons at the Peterborough Farmers Market, where they routinely sold out. In February 2021, LaRouche opened her own bakery and cafe in downtown Peterborough. Sweet! Macaron’s charming storefront features outdoor seating, in addition to a few tables inside the store.

Once you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a bright and colorful display case full of macarons, mini cupcakes, and sometimes other pastries.

Each macaron is made with French buttercream filling to give it an authentic, decadent taste. With sixteen flavors, ranging from classic vanilla to unique offerings like Fruity Pebbles, birthday cake, or lavender, it can be hard to choose just one.

But this bakery’s creative menu isn’t just limited to macarons – its mini cupcakes come in an array of fun flavors, too. Nutella, Snickers, berry cheesecake, and maple bacon are just a few of the cupcake flavors that have been offered in the past. Of course, there’s always room for classic favorites, like peanut butter cup and Oreo.
