What are the best stops along the Kancamangus Highway in New Hampshire?
Here are some of my favorite stops along the Kancamangus Highway in New Hampshire:
- Sabbaday Falls.
- Rocky Gorge (make sure you walk across the bridge and through the woods to the hidden pond).
- The Lincoln Woods trailhead is filled with tons of hiking trails but the bridge right near the start is super cool.
- Champney Falls Trailhead.
- The Discovery Trail.
When is the best time to ride the Kancamangus Highway?
There is really no bad time to go on the Kancamangus Highway but here is what you should know for each season:
- Winter: The road is plowed but many of the trailheads and overlooks are not so use caution you will however be rewarded with beautiful snow-peak mountain views.
- Spring: This season tends to be less crowded and you will have to still be aware of lingering snow in the higher elevated areas but the waterfalls are flowing very well from all the melted snow and extra rain.
- Summer: This is a beautiful season to explore and the lush green mountains will be ready to hike with little to no setbacks when it comes to weather.
- Fall: This is the best time to take this scenic drive but then again so does everyone. Crowds can simply make this trip take four times as long; however, if you go early enough or during the week there should be fewer people.
