It’s all at Umbagog Lake State Park, which is an amazingly beautiful escape from the real world.

Umbagog Lake State Park is one of the newer New Hampshire state parks, and it's a real gem – stark, largely untouched, and full of wildlife. If you haven't yet visited, make your summer plans now!

The park has some fairly typical campsites, but it really stands out for its remote campsites, that can only be accessed by boat. You're sure to remain undisturbed there! (And don't worry – you don't need a boat. You can, for a fee, be dropped off by park staff).

If you prefer a little more in the way of creature comforts, you can rent one of four remote cabins which, like the campsites, are only accessible by boat. Despite their isolation, you'll find them fully outfitted with everything from beds to pots and pans, for very reasonable prices.

Umbagog Lake State Park is an absolutely gorgeous, magical place located along RR 26 in Errol, New Hampshire. It offers 63 single-family campsites, 33 remote campsites, and four remote cabins, all of which are the very definition of seclusion. The lake itself is 8,700 amazing acres of clean, clear, sparkling water; best of all, the lake straddles the New Hampshire/Maine state line, so it’s like you get the best of both worlds! Umbagog Lake State Park is not the only place where you’ll find gorgeous, remote campgrounds in New Hampshire. Nope – there are several more, including:  

  • Hancock Campground – Located near Lincoln, this little slice of paradise has 54 campsites with fire pits and picnic tables. Some have electrical hookups!  
  • Beech Hill Campground – Some of the sites here are more secluded than others, but they’re all lovely. You’ll find it up in the White Mountains.  
  • Passaconaway Campground – This campground barely has cell service, so it’s truly away from it all. It’s also wonderful for spotting wildlife!

Naturally, the above-mentioned places are far from the only ones you can pitch a tent at. There are lots of amazing places to go camping in New Hampshire; some of our all-time favorites are spots like:  

  • Lafayette Place Campground – With 97 big campsites to choose from, this gorgeous campground is nestled in the White Mountains much like Beech Hill is.  
  • Sugarloaf Campgrounds – These two sister campgrounds are nestled on the Zealand River and are quite remote; they’re perfect for some peace and quiet.  
  • White Lake State Park – Lakeside beach camping? We think yes.
