There are a lot of reasons to move to New Hampshire. The nature, the people and the great food and drink options are just a few. Along with those, we love how safe things here are. The state has one of the lowest rates of crime in the entire country. In fact, the crime rates in New Hampshire appear to be dropping. Last year there were a reported 1.7 incidents of crime per 1,000 people and this year that number has dropped to 1.5. To make sure you can feel that safety every day you’ll want to make sure you live in the towns on this list, which were shared by Safewise.
Safewise recently rated each state in the country, ranking the safest cities and towns within each one. Not surprisingly, New Hampshire's were not hard to list! In a state with crime rates far below the national average, there are some truly fantastic places to choose from.
On this year's safest cities list for New Hampshire we've got
Danville in the #1 spot. The next 9 safest cities are: Brookline, Atkinson, New Boston, Durham, Nottingham, Hopkinton, Sandown, Deerfield and Lee.
Interestingly, this year's State of Safety survey tells us that 42% of New Hampshirites report being concerned about their own personal safety. That might seem high, but it's below the national average of 47%.
It's one thing to see the facts, but it's another to feel safe. That's why we're happy to report that New Hampshirites worry about violent crime, property crime, package theft and gun violence far less than the rest of the country. For instance, as a nation about 41% of the population worries about violent crime, while only about 32% of those living here have the same fear.
Nonetheless, a reported 33% of New Hampshirites asked in this survey say they use a form of personal protection, including pepper spray. That's just about equal to the national average of 34%.
Those looking to live in the safest place in New Hampshire will want to check out Danville. It's been in the #1 spot for safety for two years in a row and it's the only city in New Hampshire that's reported no violent crimes in the last two years!
The entire list is comprised of 82 different towns in New Hampshire ranked among the safest. If you're curious, be sure to check out the longer list to see if your town made it!
