You already know that New Hampshire is full of history. From the official history of our logging past to the stories that get told around the dinner table by family, we’re always fascinated by all that has come before us here. But if you don’t think that history is always the most interesting topic, take a closer look at all the places it exists. Including this landmark shop that’s received attention all around the world.
You could say that Lahout's Summit Shop in Littleton got its start as a horse and wagon operation in the 1920s after Herbert and Ann Lahout emigrated from Lebanon.
When Herbert died suddenly in the 1930s, son Joe was left to run the business. During this time Joe picked up a love of skiing, practicing and competing in a variety of competitions
Later, after serving in World War II, he made it his mission to affordably outfit the kids in the North Country to allow skiing to be a part of their lives.
The mission of getting people outside have never stopped and today it's the place to go when you need something to help make a romp in the outdoors a reality.
With almost 100 years of service, Lahout's Summit Shop knows what they're doing. And they've attracted quite a following. They've been featured in national news and magazines, which has only added to their popularity.
And when you visit, you can imagine the hard word that went into the operation beginning way back in the 1920s when it was a horse and wagon operation run by an ambitious from Lebabon who called New Hampshire their beloved home.
Lahout’s Summit Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can learn more about their history and what they offer by checking out their website. You can also follow them on Facebook. For more information they can be reached on 603-444-0915.
