It’s known as America’s Stonehenge and you can visit this mysterious place for yourself. Come see why this spot continues to intrigue generations of explorers. America's Stonehenge is located in Salem, New Hampshire.
This unique archaeological site consists of large rocks and stone structures, spanning nearly 30 acres.
America's Stonehenge remains mysterious, as its origins are conflicting, depending on who you talk to.
According to the official website, this marvel is over 4,000 years old. Like the Stonehenge in Europe, America's Stonehenge is also said to reflect an accurate astronomical calendar.
Others say that the structures were likely placed in the 18th and 19 centuries by local farmers for various reasons.
For example, the "sacrificial stone," that some say has grooves for blood, was actually believed to be grooved by farmers to extract lye from wood ashes.
For a while this area was named Mystery Hill, until 1982. It was then renamed and re-branded to America's Stonehenge.
Hoax or historic marvel? No matter what you believe, America's Stonehenge remains an interesting place to visit.
