If you ask us when the appropriate time for ice cream is we’ll always say any time! There’s no reason we can’t enjoy it year-round, except that quite a few spots close when the summer ends and tourists go home. We spend those ice cream empty months visiting the spots that remain open and planning our list of must-visits when the season begins again. High on that list is this spot. With a Portsmouth New Hampshire location it’s easy to visit and their all-natural ingredients make it feel just a little bit healthier. Even better? It’s been voted among the best in the state!
Head to the beautiful town of Portsmouth to enjoy some of the best ice cream in the state! Annabelle's Natural Ice Cream, located on Ceres Street, has been around since 1982 and it's been a local favorite ever since.
The narrow street with brick buildings is exactly what you might expect of a New England ice cream purveyor. The navy blue awnings and colorful flowers and signs all indicate a good time.
In 1992 Dr. Lewis Palosky and his wife Linda took over the operations of Annabelle's. They loved it so much that Dr. Palosky eventually retired from his optometry practices to focus full-time on ice cream.
The goal for the recipes at Annabelle's has always been the same. As all-natural as possible! There are no artificial colors, they use 16 ½ % butterfat, and there's very low air injection. All of this combined makes for an absolutely scrumptious treat that feels just a bit better for you than the store-bought kind.
The flavors are plentiful and include things like peanut butter fantasy, cashew caramel cluster, chocolate chip with Kahlua, and New Hampshire pure maple walnut.
This is a special spot and it's worth making it a must-visit.
Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream is open during the season Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight. You can learn more about their history and what they offer by visiting their website. Keep up with when they open and close each season by following them on Facebook. They can be reached on 603-436-3400.
