There’s something about New Hampshire and motorcycles that goes together so well – perhaps it’s the live free or die spirit, perhaps it’s the fact that we have so many miles of scenic roads to enjoy. Whatever it is, it’s a match made in heaven, and every year bikers from the Granite State and beyond come out in force to celebrate that connection at Laconia Motorcycle Week (or Bike Week, as it’s commonly called) from June 9–17, 2018.
Believe it or not, this year's Motorcycle Week is the 95th! The event's roots date back to 1916, when a so-called "Gypsy Tour" camped out in Weirs Beach for a few nights. The rally as we know it started in 1923, though for many years it was still called the Gypsy Rally. That makes it the oldest motorcycle rally in the country!
The rally's events center around Weirs Beach, where you'll find performers, merchandise for sale, and plenty of people-watching.
After all those years of history, New Hampshirites have come to expect – and appreciate – the sight of dozens and dozens of bikers filling their streets and enjoying all that the Granite State has to offer. During the festival, there daily scenic rides all over the place, in addition to races and special trick exhibitions.
For especially intrepid bikers, a highlight is the ride up the Mount Washington Auto Road, which closes itself off to cars for two days during the rally.
For onlookers, one of the most exciting events is the dramatic Hill Climb, found in Gilford. You'll marvel at the bravery and skill on display here!
There's also plenty to see and do on two feet - there's basically an entire motorcycle expo here, with all kinds of bikes and more on display.
As you'd expect, Weirs Beach turns into quite the party scene in the evenings during the rally. It's a sight not to be missed!
