New Hampshire, which became a state back in 1776, is rich in history, including that of a paranormal nature. The ghosts of those long-ago deceased, in some cases, are said to still linger at those sites where they once lived. The haunted James House and Three Chimneys Inn, where you can dine with ghosts, are two such places.
The James House in Hampton, New Hampshire was built in 1723 for Benjamin James and his family. Visitors have reportedly witnessed ghosts in the windows and doors slamming mysteriously, and have even heard strange laughter echoing in the hallway.
Stop by the house when the film, Silent Echoes: The History and Haunting of the James House Museum, is playing. See the trailer for it on YouTube.
Events offered at the James House allow you to take a peek inside, hear ghost stories, and even participate in seances aimed at raising the dead that may dwell in the house.
Throughout the year, groups such as Spirit Chasers Paranormal and New England Ghost Project are invited to conduct paranormal investigations, recording their interactions with any apparitions present in the house.
Valentine Hill was the original owner of the house, built in 1649. According to local legend, Hill’s daughter Hannah drowned in the Oyster River, and her ghost still occupies the building to this day.
Staff and customers alike tell tales of silverware and furniture inexplicably moving, and doors locking, with nobody in sight.
