Oh, New Hampshire. Your beauty is unsurpassed. Your mountains are incredible. And there’s nothing better than waking up to experience it all first-hand. If you’re lucky enough to live in the mountains with a great view at all times, consider yourself lucky. For everyone else, this mountain lodge in New Hampshire will enthrall you. But, there’s more to it than just incredible views. There’s some pretty great history at this lodge!
The Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa is located in the heart of the White Mountains and it's rich with history.
As the story goes, two travelers heading to Boston from Montreal faced being stranded when their stagecoach overturned en route. The driver suggested they go to a nearby farmhouse in the small town of Whitefield to find lodging for the night.
The owners of the farmhouse, William and Mary Jane Dodge, gladly let them stay overnight.
While the travelers had initially been eager to get to Boston, after just one night with the Dodge couple they changed their plans. Why? The view! The first sight of the mountains was so incredible that they soon chose to stay a week in the small town.

The very next year, in 1866, the inn officially opened and the family made their first addition to the home. And, less than ten years later, a three-story building replaced the original farmhouse.
In 1986, the hotel closed for nearly 20 years after it was sold to a management company. It re-opened in 2002 as a version of the incredible, sprawling masterpiece that exists today.
No matter when you visit, you'll find that being in the New Hampshire mountains is one of the best ways to re-connect with friends, family and yourself.
