As we inch a bit closer to fall we’ve got a renewed focus on all the hikes we want to do before it’s time for sweater weather. And there are plenty to choose from. Whether you want to be shaded by trees for your entire journey or prefer to be out in the sunshine looking at the scenery, you’ll enjoy every moment of being outside in the Granite State. One of the more unique options is this one, through the woods and straight towards a cave!

The Big Rock Cave trail is located in the Sandwich Range in the White Mountains, near Albany. The caves can be reached by heading up Mt. Mexico, a 2,000 footer in the southern portion of the White Mountains.

The out-and-back trail is about 3.5-miles in total and offers lots of forested views.

The trailhead is just off of route 113A. Make your way to the Ferncroft parking area and set off! Note that while we think the Big Rock Cave Trail is great, you can also access the summit and the caves using the Cabin Trail.
