The Gorgeous 1.2-Mile Hike In New Hampshire's Heron Point Sanctuary That Will Lead You Past A Waterfall And River

One of the best way to remember all the ways we love New Hampshire is to get outside and see the landscape! We’ve got enough hidden corners and far-flung spots to allow for lots of alone time in the wilderness, but sometimes we just don’t have the time to travel. That’s when we search out the spots that are a bit closer to home. This trail, located as close to a city-center as you can get, offers both river and waterfall views and we love it!

Head to Newmarket to find the Heron Point Sanctuary Loop Trail! The route is located so close to town that you'll still be able to see the architecture that sits on the river. The proximity to town makes this trail a great option for those looking to add a short walk to their daily routine.

Much of the 1.2-mile trail is made of boardwalk which means you won't need to navigate over rough patches and roots like on some other trails.

And in the summer you can access the river using the boardwalks leading down to the edge of the water.

The sections that feature dirt pathway also offer some beautiful views of the river and the town.

This is a great trail in the fall as much of the area is awash in color, despite not being what many would consider to be *real* forest.

And, while the trail is close to town there are still plenty of areas offering views that feel totally secluded.

Plan to do the hike early in the morning when the trail opens at 8am-ish or head here in the late afternoon for some peace and quiet.

While the tree-covered trail is lovely all on its own, our favorite feature is probably the watarfall!

The Heron Point Sanctuary Loop Trail is open year-round, but is said to be best between April and October. You can learn more about it by checking out alltrails.com.
