When we think of New Hampshire we typically imagine beautiful landscapes, great food and friendly people. But there’s a long history to the state and that typically includes some things we’d like to forget. In a state with such a long history it’s also not uncommon to hear a few ghost stories. That’s exactly what we have for you today!
Hampton Beach in New Hampshire is known to most people as a fun summertime destination. With restaurants, bars and access to the short span of the state's coastline is a no-brainer for those looking to take advantage of the short months of warm weather.
In 1656 and 1671 Goody Cole was accused of witchcraft and suffered the same fate as other innocent women in New England. While she wasn't put to death, she was persecuted and doubted, forced to live her life enduring hate.
The charge against her was of cursing a group of sailors who later died at sea. She paid a fine and died some years later of natural causes. But that wasn't the end of things.
Unfortunately, stories like this can be told all over the region. Perhaps Cole is lucky to have passed from natural causes rather than something much worse. Regardless, people seem to believe she harbors resentment and we somehow just can't blame her.
Have you driven on Island Path Road? Or, even better, do you live there? We’d love to hear any creepy, crawly stories you have. If this road is new to you, but you know of some other haunted spots in the state we’d love to hear about those too!
