New Hampshire is one of the oldest states in the nation, so it’s no surprise that there are lots of haunted places hidden among our rolling hills. Since the seacoast is the oldest area of New Hampshire, it’s natural that the seacoast towns have lots of reported hauntings. But one creepy New Hampshire small town stands out from the rest when it comes to paranormal activity.
Hampton has so much paranormal activity that even the town's parks are haunted. Meetinghouse Green Memorial Park is said to be haunted by the ghost of the only woman ever convicted of witchcraft in New Hampshire. The park, also known as Founders Park, is located at 40 Park Ave, Hampton.
Goody Cole was in and out of prison throughout her life in the 1660s and the 1670s. When she died in the 1680s she was buried in an unmarked grave in Hampton. In the 1960s this stone was put up in her memory.
But that's just the beginning of the hauntings in Hampton. General Jonathan Moulton served in the Revolutionary War and came home to the seacoast where me made a fortune. But that wasn't enough for Moulton, who reportedly sold his soul to the devil. In exchange, the devil would fill his boots with gold once a month.
However, Moulton was still greedy and tried to cheat the devil by cutting a hole in his boots to get even more gold. When the devil realized this, he burned down Moulton's home as punishment.
The home is known to have burned down in the 1770s. Moulton rebuilt it, and the new mansion stands till this day, reportedly inhabited by the ghost of Moulton's wife, Abigail. See the home as it stands today at 212 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
The mansion isn't the only haunted Hampton home that has seen some changes. The Marston House is more than 200 years old, but the ghost who lives there is perpetually 11. The boy, who appears dressed like a sailor, is said to be the ghost of Valentine Marston, who died after being shot while hunting in 1890. The house has been moved from its original location, but it's said that little Valentine traveled with it. In fact, then the house moved the moving company reported two blown tires, something that had never happened before.
The people who lived in the house at its previous location - where it stood when Valentine died - report that they regularly heard footsteps or doors opening in the house. One girl even saw the ghost!
