The store was the dream of John and Kate Harman who left a life in New York City in search of a retirement in a small town with a country store.

They found their store in 1954. At around the same time, they also met a man who told they he'd recently come across a store of "forgotten" cheese. Knowing the value of aged cheese, John jumped at the chance to own it and purchased nearly half a ton for about .54 cents a pound.

Using his skills in advertising, John began his own mail order business. Word spread and the Harman cheese became known as the "World’s Greatest" Cheddar Cheese."

From there, a business began!

The only problem with aged cheese is that it runs out and once it's gone it's gone. For example, this summer only 20 blocks of the Smoked 2015 Harman's Cheddar was left. This 3 year aged cheese was a specialty and people ran to buy it
