We normally reserve the telling of ghost stories for Halloween, but when we heard this one we just had to share. With so much history in New Hampshire, many of local tales of woe take place in old taverns and homes dotted around the state. Interestingly, this one takes place high atop Mount Washington. And, it’s one of the creepiest we’ve ever heard.
The summit of Mount Washington can be an unforgiving place. With unpredictable weather and erratic conditions, it's known as one of the most intense places to experience winter weather across the globe.
The crew member was tasked with heading out to one of the Appalachian Trail huts during the early spring to prepare it for the arrival of hikers and backpackers.
He was expected to send word of his arrival via radio, but contact was never made. As minutes became hours, his team below grew increasingly more worried.
They went inside to find him clutching an ax, crouched under the sink. His memory is murky, but he reported seeing the same eerie face between the window glass and the wood of the boards. He remembers nothing of the hours after seeing the faces.
Have you ever encountered something eerie while camping or hiking? We'd love to hear your story!
Another spooky ghost story takes place in this old tavern located in Nashua. It’s still open today and a visit might mean coming face to face with their own local apparition.
